This is the story of Hamilton and its harbour, although this story could be told about many cities and their waterfronts around the world. It is a story of a people who cherished their bay for its beauty, its enormous economic potential, and its boundless recreational opportunities.
True, the beauty and majesty of the natural harbour gave way to a polluted, seemingly inaccessible, and sometimes unattractive feature of the modern industrial city's landscape. But look again. Generations of hardworking people have tried – and continue trying – to build a healthy place to work, live and play.
Join historians Nancy Bouchier and Ken Cruikshank on a cruise aboard the Hamilton Harbour Queen. This is no ordinary cruise of the bay. Through old photographs, films, and historical re-enactments, you will see more than the modern waterfront. You will see people, places, and events from the city’s past.
This project was funded by the L.R. Wilson Centre for Canadian History at McMaster University.
